Belgian soprano Astrid Stockman (1987) does not shy away from any challenge and has given convincing performances in oratorio, lied and opera, extending from early to contemporary music. Her versatility and desire to experiment makes her a sought-after soloist in Belgium and abroad. She performed on major stages and festivals, such as BOZAR (B), La Monnaie/De Munt (B), Grec Festival Barcelona (ES), Prisma Festival Panama (PA), Osterfestival (AT), Rotterdam Opera Days (NL), ILT Festival (DK), Temporada Alta (ES) and many others.
For Muziektheater Transparant Astrid sang Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni – Mozart) and Belinda (Dido & Aeneas – Purcell). She worked with Israeli choreographer Itamar Serussi Sahar, taking the role of Venus in a choreographed version of John Blow’s Venus and Adonis. She sang Marzelline in an adaption of Beethovens “Fidelio”. She also performed the role of Mimi in “Les desventures de Mimi”, an opera for and with children and a coproduction of BOZAR and L’Auditori Barcelona. This season she will be playing the female lead role in the newly composed children’s opera ‘Quartier Liberté’, also for BOZAR. For Muziektheater Transparant and Opera XXI she wrote, created and sang the role of Medea in “Medeamaterial”, a soundscape opera directed by Aïda Gabriëls. She sang Madama Butterfly for Kameroperahuis Nederland and I Solisti Del Vento in “Before I die”. She created the sung part in the world touring production “HERE” for Lali Ayguadé Company & Guilhem Chatir. Next season she will be creating the part of ‘Girl’ in “Be My Superstar”, an immersive opera for youngsters, coproduced by LOD and various European opera houses and festivals.
Astrid was a soloist in several major oratoria compositions. She also sang and toured with orchestras and ensembles such as The National Orchestra of Belgium, Scherzi Musicali and The Antwerp Baroque Orchestra. She is a member of ENOA since 2017.
