Dance of the Seven Veils

As part of our quest to dive into as many possible facets of heaviness as we can, we are thrilled to join forces with Schouwburg Tilburg to present Dance of the Seven Veils as an off-programme event during Roadburn.

If you’re already familiar with the central figure of Salome, then you may be aware that many traits have been hung upon her character from lust to brutality, making her a complex and fascinating persona to explore. Director Aïda Gabriëls set about telling her version of this often embellished tale that can be traced back to the 1890’s Oscar Wilde play of the same name (but with biblical origins going back yet further). Gabriëls enlisted musicians Colin H. Van Eeckhout (CHVE, Amenra), Pieter-Jan Van Assche (Innerwoud) and soprano Astrid Stockman to provide the all-important audio element of this story. 

For Roadburn, it will be the first time that we fully embrace dance in our heaviness expeditions; German Jauregui brings Salome to life with evocative dance that explores the character in new ways.  Dance of the Seven Veils may take Roadburn into uncharted waters for the festival, but Salome is a character that may well resonate with the complexities and dynamics that we often explore through other means. 

Dance of the Seven Veils will take place at Schouwburg Tilburg on Saturday 22 April 2023; the event will be accessible with an additional ticket, discounted for Roadburn attendees. These tickets can be bought as an upgrade to your Roadburn ticket for €8.40 including service fee.
